Learn of Christ: Meek and Lowly
Description
Regardless of how conservative your values or how high your standards may be, the real measure of your Christianity is your response under pressure. James reminds us, “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain” (James 1:25).
In a weak moment of anger, we can thoroughly undo all the good we have tried to be and do. Anger is a scourge on every life and home it touches. It can manifest itself by explosive words, destructive actions, or silent suppression and retreat. Anger destroys relationships. No matter how justifiable our cause for anger may seem, anger is never an acceptable response. The wrath of man never works the righteousness of God (James 1:20)!
It is too easy to minimize it, marginalize it, justify it, blame people and circumstances as the cause, or claim “righteous indignation” in a display of emotion that is everything but righteous. One of the most freeing things we ever do is to take responsibility for our anger and to recognize it for the sin that it is and the damage that it causes. The way forward is not learning to manage anger, but learning to resolve anger and transform conflict.
In a fallen world, stress is inevitable. Conflict is inevitable. Violated rights and dashed expectations are inevitable. So, learning how to navigate these pressures with patience, humility, and objectivity is imperative. No one endured more injustice, betrayal, disrespect, and persecution that Jesus did. And of all the qualities Jesus invites us to learn of Him, meekness and humility are at the top of the list.
This Spiritual Life Conference inspires hope by offering a pathway for lasting victory over an angry spirit, and help for resolving the emotional damage created by past failure.
